Hi everyone, Audrey here! One thing I love to do every year at Christmas time is make handmade ornaments as gifts. This year, I've decided to do gingerbread boy ornaments for close friends and family. Made from Donna's fabulous Corrugated Board, and iced with white embossing powder and glitter, these little guys are sure to make a sweet addition to our holiday tree.
To get started, download the gingerbread boy template and re-size the pattern to suit. I re-sized my pattern to approximately 5" x 6". Trace the template onto a sheet of Corrugated Board and cut out.
Peel off the top layer of the board, revealing the pretty corrugated beneath. Swipe the entire gingerbread boy over an embossing ink pad and sprinkle with Top Boss White Embossing Powder. Heat set the powder and allow to cool. Using Clearsnap's Glue Gloss, apply a thin line of adhesive to the raised, embossed areas and sprinkle with Mixed Berries Fairy Dust Glitter.
Next, we're going to die cut some Ric-rac felt stripes to use as embellishments. I used Donna's Creative Book Pages Two dies by Spellbinders to create some sweet little Ric-rac from both red and cream felt. Simply cut thin strips of felt and run them through your die cutting machine, with one edge of the scalloped mat under the strip of felt. Cut two pieces from red felt to decorate the arms and legs, and one piece from cream felt. Trim if necessary. Cut the red felt into pieces and adhere to your gingerbread boy. Then roll the cream strip into a coil and adhere the end to form a little flower. Set the flower aside for now. Using liquid pearls or glitter glue, draw wavy lines across the red trim pieces. Create eyes using two small black brads, and hand-stitch a mouth using red embroidery floss.
Adhere two buttons onto the gingerbread boy body. And now, we need to make a fun little candy cane for him to hold. Bend a red and white striped chenille stem into a candy cane form. Ink it with light brown ink from Clearsnap's Rich Rustics Classic Cat's Eye Queue. Adhere the candy cane to your gingerbread boy. Create a rosette using Spring In Bloom Die Cut Springtime Ribbon Paper. Apply Mixed Berries glitter to the top edges and then adhere the cream flower in the center. Add more glue to the top of the flower and sprinkle with glitter. Adhere the rosette to the candy cane, along with a pretty bow.
Punch a small hole in each arm and thread with wire to create the ornament hanger.
And that's all there is to it! Easy and fun! Just think how cute these would look in a variety of sizes. I left the template big so that you can play and experiment. Try different colors of felt for a whole new look. Use mini bells instead of buttons. The possibilities are endless! I hope you enjoy!
