A Walk in the Park by ~ Mistra Hoolahan

Hi lovelies!  This is a layout I created with Natasha, we set a challenge to use the same papers and the same sketch to see what we'd come up with.  

Here's the sketch we used:

I have created some deep layers on this one, building up the matts under the photo with chipboard offcuts so they were level with the grungy ruffle I created.

This beautiful satin rosette flower was the perfect shade for the green and blue hue of Donna's papers, and a bow from natural jute ribbon accented the natural tones of the layout.

Below is a view of the depth created, and the fabulous grungy ruffle.  These papers worked well for wet distressing, they tattered just the right amount without falling apart.

Here's how I created the ruffle:

You'll need some offcut strips, about 2 inches wide, double sided tape, fast drying PVA glue and a water mister.  Plus a narrow offcut for the reverse and punched border or lace trim for the front.

Spray the strips with water so they are quite damp.

Then scrunch them up and unravel...

Use some tape on the reverse and gather into random messy ruffles.

Like shown here...

The tape will just hold it long enough to finish... keep adding ruffles until you have the length you need.

Remove the carrier strip of the double sided tape and add a strip of glue to the reverse.  The glue will help the ruffles adhere better while wet.

Attach a strip of paper offcut to the reverse to hold the ruffles in place.

Then add a punched border, piece of ribbon or trim to hide the top of the ruffled edge and your grungy ruffle is finished!  The key to making this is not to be neat, don't worry about being precise, and let the edges get messed up and worn, it just adds to the grunginess!
