Cozy Christmas Reveal

I'm not a real traditional red and green Christmas kinda girl... I love soft hues of blue, brown, teal, peach, ivory and of course denim! This year I decided to make a paper line that makes me feel happy all the way down to my toes! I've got lots of natural textures, flowers, snowflakes and swirls so you can create your own Girlie Grunge Holiday projects.  So... without further ado... here is:

"Love is" Wall Hanging by ~ Mistra Hoolahan

Hi everyone!!

Today I have this sweet wall hanging to share with you all, featuring Donna's fabulous Denim and Canvas from Want 2 Scrap.  I love incorporating textiles into my work, so this was something I was really looking forward to playing with!

 

 

 

I have used the 6x6 chipboard from Want 2 Scrap as a base and decoupaged with torn pieces of Spring in Bloom paper and Crafty Chronicle.  I used the 7x7  Canvas and Denim to create 2 of the hearts and to also create a backing for the whole hanging {to hide the messy backs}, the third heart was made from Donna's Corrugated Card by Zutter.

 

 

Using Donna's Wonderful Wings die from Spellbinders and an offcut of Canvas I cut a butterfly from canvas, as well as from some sparkly paper and topped it off with the gorgeous Wonderful Wings Bling from Want 2 Scrap.

 

 

Donna's chipboard alphas from GCD Studios were perfect to use as is.  They are compatible with her Donna's Alphas Spellbinders Dies, so you can effortlessly cut patterned paper to match, but I just dabbed a little Patina Mix'd Media Inx onto them with a baby wipe and then dried it with a heat gun.  They 'Dymo' words were simply printed onto plain paper to the perfect size I wanted.

 

 

The large bouquet rose was cut using Donna's Grand Peony Die from Spellbinders, I have a tutorial on creating these HERE.  I used 2 different sizes on this hanging, one of them using the largest of the die set, creating a flower as big as my palm... impressive!!

I've added some chippy swirls and a birdcage, painted white and then coated with Fairy Dust Glitter in Mixed Berries, and added some rhinestone bling for more shine!  I tied some bows from gauze and also used gauze to make the hanger and then some pretty lace trim to the bottom of each piece.  Then as a final touch added some sweet beaded drops.

Here's how I created the hearts:

First I created a heart template and traced it onto the canvas, denim and corrugated card, then trimmed them out.

The fabric hearts had the edges frayed, I just use an awl to pull the threads.

To add to the worn look, I cut a slit into the canvas heart and frayed the edges.

I dry brushed both the canvas and denim with a warm white acrylic paint...

then sprayed some Smooch Spritz in Mixed Berries and River Mossy onto them randomly.

While the Smooch and the paint was still wet I next misted some water to soften and blend the colours and allowed the hearts to dry.

For the corrugated heart, after trimming out I tore the top layer from one side to reveal the corrugation and dabbed on some warm white acrylic paint.

And as a bonus... here's how I created the background {which I then went and mostly covered up with hearts LOL}:

Tear up some offcuts of Spring in Bloom White Roses patterned paper and Crafty Chronicle and then piece by piece adhere these to one side of 6x6 Chipboard using your favourite decoupage medium.

 

 

 

Until the surface is covered...

Once dried, trim of the salvage from the edges and add a few small dabs of paint across the top...

 

and then drag the paint across the surface with a scraping tool or old store card. 

 

 

This gives a very thin layer of paint, allowing the images to just show through.

 

Once the paint is dried, add some Wisteria, Peridot and Patina Mix'd Media Inx to the edges with an applicator.

 

And then blend with a baby wipe to soften... 

 

and it's ready to be used!!

 

I hope you found this inspiring!  Very soon this little treasure will be going to live on the other side of the world from me... one of my dearest friends gave me the 'pretty please with sugar on top' line when I showed her, how could I say no!!

Reverse Canvas by ~ Michelle Grant

 I am back this month with a Reverse Canvas featuring Donna's Bird cage and Botanique Patterned paper. I was really happy with how this turned out! I have had a very busy couple of weeks trying to get ahead so we can go on a family holiday to New Zealand next week! I am sooo looking forward to the break!

 The mesh around the edge of the frame is like a florist mesh, I stuck it to the edge of the frame then painted over it!.

 

 I love this little birdie in here! He was just perfect!

The steps for creating this finish on the bird cage is as follows!

Step 1: Paint the bird cage pieces black

Step 2: Once Dry ink over the black with the Pewter Mix'd Media Inx

 Ink Both Pieces.

 Step 3: Sprinkle the Jasmine Mix'd Media Inx Embossing powder over the ink and Heat set.

 Step 4: Sand and distress to give a worn and weatherd look.

 I have used 3D foam tap to attach the two pieces together, slightly bending the front of the cage to give it a curved look. At the center of the base of the bird cage there is several layers of the foam tape.

Mixed Media Canvas by ~ Jessy Christopher

Hey creative peeps! Today I would like to share with you a mixed media 7x7 canvas that I created for today's post. I really had so much fun putting everything together. Always love to explore with mixed media! Let me share with you how I created this piece...

Scrappy info:

1. Tear pieces of paper in strips. Don't worry about how tidy you have to position your papers. Go with the flow.

2. Use Mod Podge as your adhesive. Apply it on the canvas and also on the papers.

3. Once done, use a brush with some modeling paste (add & blend the mix'd media inx reinkers into the modeling paste) to go all around the canvas & it will give a little color to the background. 

4. Next, get some modeling paste and a mask to do masking. 

5. Once dried, use the same mask and mist. 

6. Stamp the bubble wrap stamp, pour the embossing powder and embossed.

7. Use doilies to give subtle look to the canvas. 

8. Lastly embellish your canvas with die-cut flowers & butterflies, bling & crafty chronicle papers. Apply some smooch glitz onto the flowers and doilies.

Here are some step by step photos of some fun ways you can use these new dies.

 

I die cut and embossed my photo (printed on Epson Enhanced Matte Photo paper) using the polaroid die from Snapshot, then inked the outside edges with Honey Mix'd Media Inx.

 

I inked up the cut side of the die with Jasmine Mix'd Media Inx and embossed the photo again.

I swiped more Jasmine Mix'd Media Inx around the edges, sprinkled with Jasmine Mix'd Media Inx Embossing Powder and heat set (a close up of the finished result is shown in the photo above).

 

I stamped the camera image from my Art Gone Wild Compatible stamp set using Black Mix'd Media Inx, sprinkled Black Mix'd Media Inx Embossing Powder over the top and heat set ** the outline around the stamp is the exact outline of the metal die to make it super easy to line up the die properly** I used low tack painters tape to hold the die in place.

   

I designed the word dies so that they look best when letterpressed (but you can also stencil through the die after embossing). I inked up the cutting side of the die with a very pigmented ink (Black Mix'd Media Inx used on sample), placed it onto the medium I wanted to die cut (manilla paper from the Mix'd Media Stax used on sample), I covered the dies with a piece of paper (to keep my plates from getting inky) and ran the sandwich through my Grand Calibur machine. I cut the camera at the same time as the words and had plenty of space left on my Grand Calibur plates.

 

I flipped the sandwich over and misted the back with water (to get a deeper emboss). I added the tan embossing pad and the pink embossing plate and ran the sandwich through my Grand Calibur again.

The close ups above show you how the die cuts turned out... some of the words were used on another project that I'll show you below.

"Pocket Full Of Posies" Wallhanging

   

I die cut and embossed the pocket then stitched through the holes to create this realistic looking pocket.

Wall Hanging & Background Tutorial by ~ Mandy Harrell

Hi Everyone, It's Mandy!!  I'm back to show you a wall hanging I made for my daughter Brooklyn.  I had a ton of fun creating the background for this and I wanted to show you how easy it is to mix your Smooch Spritz sprays and Stamping to create a beautiful background.

For my background I used the Zutter 8x10 Art Board.

For the Smooch Spritz sprays I chose to use Holly Berries, Sea Breeze, and River Mossy.

I also used Mix'd Media Inx in Mossy.

For the stamp I used the Dear Sir stamp by Stampers Anonymous.

Then I had some water in a spray bottle and some paper towels.

I sprayed my board three times with Holly Berries in the middle and then sprayed it a couple times with water to puddle it up.  After that I dabbed the board using a paper towel.

Next I went around the edges with Sea Breeze and used water to spray inward to push the color towards the center.  Then I dabbed it again with a paper towel.

I did the same using River Mossy and again used the water to push the ink inward and blotted it with a paper towel.  The colors wash together and blend very well.  I decided to add a bit more red to the center as well.

After my board dried I went around the edges with my Mossy ink and used a Color Box blending tool to blend inward just a bit and making it a bit heavier on the edges.

After that I took my Dear Sir stamp and went over a few spots about two or three times. When I use stamps with writing like this, I like to make it look imperfect by stamping more that once in different spots.

Mobile Phone Pocket by ~ Michelle Grant

Back again, this time with something a little different! I have been walking for awhile and always take my mobile with me, It's a necessity out here when you walk the back dirt tracks with the snakes & dingos etc around. I also use it for tracking our distance etc too. Anyway I don't always have a pocket on my clothes to put it in and have to hold it or put it in my bra. Then I had a brainwave to this problem when we had to use the canvas and denim this month. So I had a play and come up with a mobile phone pouch! It is perfect, small and light enough to be comfortable and out of the way when I go walking.

 Steps for Making This Mobile Phone Pouch ~

Step 1: Cut 2x canvas rectangles approx 10.5cm x 14.5cm then spray with Smooch Spritz (Green Olive, River Mossy, Candle Glow) Then lightly mist with water to soften the colours.

 Step 2: Fold over one end and machine stitch some lace along the top of each piece.

 Step 3: Next I stamped the Swirly Doos Stamp and the Mossy Miz'd Media Inx on each piece.

 Step 4: Now take a piece of canvas approx 6cm x 6cm and fray the edges. Then I sprayed a little of the Candle Glow Smooch Spritz on the mat and sprayed it with water. Drag the edges of the canvas square through the ink on the mat to colour the edges.

 Step 5: Stamp over the canvas square with the Mossy Inx and the Dear Sir Stamp. Emboss with clear embossing powder.

 Step 6: Using the Spellbinders Mix'd Media Elements cut the bird out of the denim, it didn't cut all the way through the denim but left a good impression to cut around with my scissors.

 Step 7: Next sew around the denim square then sew the bird to the square before sewing to one side of the pocket pouches.

Step 8: Finish off by sewing around the outside of the pouch with a zig zag stitch just in a bit from the edge so that you can fray the outside edge of the stitching. All I did then was cut two small slits near the top edges and threaded a strip of denim through and knotted off each end. I finished off by stitching a button to the top center with some thread. It works a treat! I am really happy with it! :)

Mixed Media Layout by ~ Solange Marques

I love to work with Acrylic Gesso,paints and a lot of texture. In this work I melted the photo on the background (one of my favorite techniques). I also used a lot of texture and stamps. The photo was fixed over the corrugate board and using paints I tried to give the sensation of continuity. After I stamped the work and apllied modeling paste, ceramic Stucco and criative texture. Shadow Box Door Hanger by ~ Lisa Blastick

Good Morning Everyone! Welcome back to another fun new project made with Donna Salazar's amazing products! Today, Im sharing with you a 6 x 6 mini shadow box made with chipboard. I decided to make it also into a door hanger for my daughters bedroom. It is shabby chic in colors and below I will share how I made the box.

Here is a closer view with lots of fun elements from Donna's products...I added pearls, ribbon and lace.

 

 

So here is the base, there are 2: 6x6 chipboard in a pack, one is for the back... 

 

And one you will cut up in .25 strips, as shown here.

I used my #11 Craft knife after it was scored once. 

 

Next make a frame every 2 inches apart and then in the centers cut them at 2.25 inches x 6 and 1.5 inches x 2...glue together and ink and emboss. Layer papers under and place other chipboard in back.

 

 

Thats it! Decorate to your desire. Enjoy and Have a great day!
