Hi everyone, Audrey here, and today I am so excited to share with you one of the projects I made for CHA last week featuring Donna's gorgeous new Botanique line. Botanique is, by far, my most favorite Donna Salazar Designs collections to date. The soft, dreamy colors and sweet floral and vintage-inspired prints are right up my alley. If you love shabby chic, girly grunge, retro beautiful, too, then I know you are going to LOVE Botanique as much as I do.
As many of you know already, I like to spruce up my home for every holiday with a few handmade home decor pieces, and one of my favorite things to create are little paper pillows, like this heart here. Pillows add an instant festive touch to any room in the house, and are SO easy to create. You can make them in any size or shape you want, add a personalized touch to match any decor or theme, and best of all, use only a few basic supplies you probably already have on hand.
To create this pillow, I started with a downloadable heart template from the internet that I re-sized and traced onto my favorite sheet of Botanique patterned paper. After you cut the heart out, stitch it onto the new Mix'd Media Stax watercolor paper to create a sturdy base for your pillow. Cut the heart out leaving approximately a 1/8" allowance around the edges. Now you are ready to embellish your pillow as you wish.
I wanted a soft and feminine look, so I dressed my pillow with lots of handmade paper flowers and a big pretty bow. The flowers were created from punches. I used two different floral punches to make the bigger flowers, and a scalloped border punch for the rolled rosettes. Punch, layer, scrunch, and secure. I coated my flowers with a dusting of Fairy Dust Glitter Mixed Berries for a bit of sparkle and glam. Spritzed some white tulle with Cashmere Smooch Spritz and tied up my heart with a simple knot, and arranged the flowers in a sweep across the center. Added a stamped sentiment banner and a pretty, layered butterfly cut with Donna's Wonderful Wings Dies. One layer from canvas, and another from patterned paper coated with glitter. Topped my butterfly with a few gems from Want2Scrap. I used Leather Mixed Media Inx for the sentiment, and swiped the edge of the heart with Chiffon for a vintage look.
When you're finished with the embellishing, simply stitch the heart front onto a second sheet of Mix'd Media Stax watercolor paper, leaving enough of an opening to stuff the pillow with tissue paper before stitching closed.
Enjoy!
